Are passwords stored on the hard drive?
Innersafe does not store passwords or keys derived from passwords on the hard drive, Windows registry, etc. Unlike weak solutions, Innersafe makes it impossible to obtain the password by analyzing the secured file.

Is 128-bit AES encryption strong enough?
That depends entirely on the quality of the security product using AES-128. A 128-bit symmetric key is almost never the weakest link in data security. It is possible to have a well-designed product using AES-128 that is far more secure than a poorly-designed product using AES-256. For example, Innersafe products do not allow millions of passwords to be guessed per second and supports passwords up to 32 characters.

Professional editions support 256-bit keys but that shouldn't be the only reason to upgrade.

Innersafe for Palm Desktop

Are the files encrypted on my handheld device?
Not by Innersafe so you have full compatibility with Palm OS software running on the handheld. Hotsync will ask for your password and decrypt data as it moves from PC to handheld. It will also encrypt protected data as it moves from handheld to PC. This enables your data to be secure on your PC while remaining compatible with applications running on your handheld such as Palm TX, Treo 650, etc.

Why are some Palm Desktop data files marked as missing?
Palm Desktop does not create all the .dat files when a new Palm user is initially created. Some .dat files such as memo.dat are created when you first enter the memo application within Palm Desktop.

Innersafe for Palm Desktop will indicate these yet-to-be created Palm .dat files as missing.

What if I lose my password or passfile?

If you performed a Hotsync, can restore the information from handheld to the PC. To do this, you must uninstall Innersafe for Palm Desktop, delete the secured files, and then Hotsync. This will restore your data from the handheld to PC. Instructions for doing this is in the Help file. You can access the Help file from the Windows Start menu.

I used Palm Desktop without Innersafe. Where is my encrypted data?

Without Innersafe, Palm Desktop does not understand how to use encrypted files. For example, if you copy encrypted files to a new PC which doesn't have Innersafe for Palm Desktop. In such cases, Palm Desktop will first rename any dat files it cannot understand and then create new ones. E.g., Palm Desktop might rename address.dat to address.dat.001 and create a new address.dat. To prevent this, avoid running Palm Desktop without Innersafe if you still have any encrypted dat files.
